More specifically, the partnership between Sabena technics and TNT Airways includes:
- a joint venture, based at Liege Airport, which will provide initially line and light maintenance services to TNT’s fleet of aircraft, comprising B737 and BAe146 types. The JV will subsequently extend its services to third party customers.
- a maintenance services agreement with Sabena technics for TNT aircraft’s components, landing gear, wheels & brakes and engineering services.
The JV will start its operations as of October 2009 subject to prior approval being obtained from the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority and clearance from the competition
authorities.
The partnership is aimed at enabling both partners to focus and develop their respective core businesses. It will allow TNT Airways to focus on transport and reduce its production costs, while benefiting from the expertise of a leading MRO (Maintenance Repair Overhaul) provider. Sabena technics will benefit from a long-term partnership with a renowned operator and provide a range of maintenance services to airlines at Liege Airport, which is currently lacking such a service offering.
Christophe Bernardini, Chief Executive Officer of Sabena technics Group said, ‘I am extremely enthusiastic of being given the opportunity to establish a partnership with a market leader in its sector such as TNT and accompany it in its development’.
Niky Terzakis, TNT Global Air Network Director added, ”This partnership with Sabena technics will enable us to focus on our core activities and reduce our cost base”. I am particularly pleased of this JV with one of the largest independent MRO providers, well known for its expertise, capabilities and resources’.
TNT Airways and Sabena technics have agreed to set up a joint venture company (JV) with the aim to provide a full range of line and light maintenance services to TNT’s fleet of aircraft. It is expected that the JV, to be based at Liege Airport, will start operations by October 2009. Within the context of this JV, Sabena technics will also provide support for aircraft components, landing gear and wheels and brakes.
